Custom-made hanbok

Designed for one day, one body.

Full custom hanbok, designed with our Seoul partner ateliers, built to your measurements and your event.

A custom hanbok is the right choice when the piece you have in mind is not in our current collection, a specific color, a particular embroidery motif, a silhouette adapted from a family heirloom, or a wedding ensemble for a group of six or more.

We work with a handful of Seoul ateliers, each with their own specialty: traditional silks and embroidery, contemporary linen cuts, children’s saekdong, ceremonial robes. Once we understand what you want, we will tell you which atelier is right for the piece.

The custom process

From conversation to closet.

Inquiry

You send us the occasion, who it is for, the mood, and any reference images. We reply within one business day.

Consultation

An hour at the studio or on a video call. We talk through fabrics, colors, silhouette, and budget. You leave with a clear vision.

Atelier match & deposit

We match the project to a Seoul atelier and present a quote. A 50% deposit secures the build slot.

Build

Four to six weeks of work in Seoul. We share progress photos at milestones. Hand embroidery extends the timeline; we will tell you.

Inspection & delivery

The piece arrives in San Mateo. We inspect every stitch. Then it ships to you (or you pick it up locally), with one round of fit adjustment included.

The day

We follow up after your event. If something is not right after the day, a hem that wants tightening, a goreum (ribbon) re-stitched, we handle it.

What we work with

Fabrics, in brief.

Silk, the foundation for ceremonial work. Heavy silks for winter weddings, lighter silks for summer paebaek and holidays. Hand embroidery is silk-on-silk.

Ramie (모시), a Korean linen-like fiber, crisp and breathable. The classic summer fabric. Beautiful on its own; rare and prized in good quality.

Cotton-silk blends, modern daily hanbok and children’s pieces. Easy to wear, easy to care for, beautiful drape.

Linen and modal, contemporary daily hanbok. Machine-washable, soft, modern.

Timeline

4 to 6 weeks

Most custom pieces ship within four to six weeks of deposit. Heavy embroidery, ceremonial commissions, and group orders take longer; we quote a specific date when we talk.

Deposit

50% to begin

A 50% deposit secures your build slot and starts the work. The remaining 50% is due before shipment. Wire, check, Zelle, or major card.

Revisions

One round included

One round of fit adjustment is included. Most custom pieces do not need it; if yours does, we handle it from San Mateo.
